Whether you’re going for an intimate setting or lavish affair, your reception seating has the ability to transform a venue.
Long tables have a rich history of serving at celebratory gatherings and the intimate, festive vibe they create is perfect for weddings of all sizes. Banquet-style seating can feel regal or rustic and the rectangular arrangements evoke a family-style atmosphere, which is right on trend at the moment.
Long banquet seating can also look exceptionally romantic. Smaller weddings can embrace the style to keep everyone together and provide a sense of occasion, while large weddings can be made more intimate while at the same time optimising the space, making room for a bigger dance floor.
Banquet tables are also great for couples that don’t like being in the spotlight, allowing the bride and groom to enjoy dining right alongside their guests.
Add some edge to your decor
Using long, rectangular banquet tables instead of, or even in addition to, traditional round tables is a fantastic way to add some edge to your wedding reception décor.
Whist there is a lot of scope for decorating a long table, the lengthy surfaces requires a different approach than selecting a single centrepiece. Some favourite options include using flower arrangements of varying heights, incorporating a table runner for additional colour, and adding candles for ambiance.
You can create a fairy tale theme with lush floral decorations along the entire length of the table adding tiny silver or gold lights twining between the flowers. For a medieval banquet or rich winter theme use long low centrepieces filled with fruits, nuts, greenery and candles in reds and purples.
If your wedding is more about elegance, the symmetry and repetition of beautiful tableware and linen on a long table is very effective, perhaps with the addition of candelabras or flower arrangements placed at regular intervals.
It’s not just about straight lines
The room set up doesn’t have to look regimented if you opt for banquet seating. You can arrange your table so that it gently curves, or is more of a semi-circle to increase that sense of togetherness. Depending on space and how many guests you have, you could either have one long table for both guests and the wedding party; a table for guests and one for the wedding party or several individual tables.
