There’s something extra romantic and unexpected about a winter wedding. It’s the season for faux furs, blankets, fire pits, marshmallows, bridal boots, dark flowers, moody candlelit venues, mulled wine and crisp nights.
Wintertime makes for great wedding photo opportunities with stormy, cloud filled skies becoming a great backdrop. It’s also the time of year for spectacular sunsets, particularly on the Sydney coastline. You can accessorise your wedding day outfit with gloves, stoles, furry jackets and warm white boots to play on the winter theme. The cold weather is also a great excuse to get close to your partner for those romantic, intimate photos.
On a practical side, you’ll find there is far greater choice when it comes to preferred dates, suppliers and the availability of venues, not to mention some generous off-peak package prices.
An Australian winter also lends itself to a wonderful European summer honeymoon. The Mediterranean will be in full holiday mode and is perfect if you worship the sun but want some culture too. Greece is a guaranteed winner and for glamour and romance it’s hard to beat the chic hotels perched on the cliff tops in Santorini. Alternatively, what could be more romantic than an Italian honeymoon? The Amalfi coast is a beautiful and elegant destination, or if you’re looking for something different, head to Sardinia to experience the best of Italy’s beaches.
If you book your wedding in June or the first half of July, you can avoid the European school holiday rush and inflated summer prices. If you tie the knot late in July, you can find some outstanding honeymoon destinations such as the Caribbean where it is low season. July is also a good month for an African safari which you can combine with a beach stay.
