It’s no secret that the holiday season is witness to the inevitable flood of Christmas and New Years proposals. (it is after all, ‘the most wonderful time of the year’!) If you suspect there may be a sparkler in your Santa sack this festive season, we have some of the best advice on how you can capitalise on the silly season and start making a dent in your wedding plans.
Hit the sales!
Unless the proposal is a complete surprise, it is likely you would have already considered outfits for your bridal party. On the other hand, if you aren’t as organised as some brides, the sale period is the ultimate time to gather your girlfriends and indulge in a little retail therapy. Retailers are desperate to rid their stock to make room for the new season and often place multiples of garments out on the floor at heavily reduced prices. If you can’t find your size, all it takes is a friendly request to the shop assistant to call neighbouring stores who will happily place your garment aside for collection.
Get organised-Start writing a timeline
Specialist stationary stores such as Kikki K stock gorgeous wedding planners and binders so you can easily organise your magazine clippings, print outs and information brochures. Invest in a yearly planner so you can see what needs to be completed at a glance.
Be a tourist in your own town! Jump in the car with little more than an open mind. Start looking at potential places to host your ceremony. The Sutherland Shire has a plethora of places available for hire; many designed to show off the area’s best assets. Think: parks, lakeside, on the beach, inside a non-denominational church, a hall or (for the brave and bold!) approach the owner of that house with the garden you’ve always loved…you never know, with some gentle persuasion and the power of flattery they might just agree to hosting your special day!
Become social media savvy
Wedding vendors are joining social media sites such as Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook in droves as they realise the power these tools hold in showing off their talents to brides-to-be. Many brides follow make up artists, hair stylists, venue stylists and cake decorators for months so they can get a feel for how their differing styles may fit in with their chosen theme. Some of our Sutherland Shire favourites are @makeupbymegan (Megan Vaughan) and @vhhair (Vanessa Henwood).
