Once you get engaged, there can be a lot to start thinking of. Thankfully, at The Waterfront Function Centre we have a dedicated events team who are experts at planning weddings to help you. We’ve put together a guide with answers to some of our most frequently asked questions to make organising your big day that little bit easier.
Should I have a sit down dinner or a stand-up cocktail function?
The choice between a sit down meal or a cocktail function can be a difficult one. Considerations include the number of guests, your budget, the age and health of your guests (a stand-up function may not be ideal if you have a lot of elderly relatives at your wedding), and the overall atmosphere you are trying to create. Our dedicated function team can help you to determine which option best suits your requirements.
How many drinks should I budget per guest?
We have a range of beverage packages available to take the guess work out of this for you. However, should you prefer to have a cash bar that you settle upon conclusion of the event, a good rule of thumb is two to three drinks per person for the cocktail hour, and one drink per person per hour for the duration of the event. This provides an allowance for a mix of non-drinkers, light drinkers and heavier drinkers and should ensure that you budget adequately.
How much time should I allow between the ceremony and the reception?
There are a few factors to consider in planning the schedule for your wedding day. Firstly, will you be having the ceremony on site, or at another location like a church or local park? How much time will you need to allow for guests to travel between the locations. You’ll also need to decide if you will be having official photos taken between the ceremony and the reception, and if so, who will be involved in these photos. If you are looking to reduce the amount of time between the ceremony and reception, many couples are increasingly opting for “first-look” photo sessions prior to their wedding ceremony.
There’s so many wedding suppliers to contact – which services are essential and how should I choose?
It’s true that there’s a large number of wedding suppliers, varying wildly in price and in quality. At the Waterfront Function Centre, we’ve put together a comprehensive list of local wedding suppliers to help make your choice easier. All of our suppliers have a proven reputation and have delighted our bridal couples time and time again. If there is a specific service you are looking for that we don’t already have a recommended supplier for, our events team will be more than happy to help you source a suitable business.
